We decided to keep driving down towards Rome, but when you drive right by Pisa, it would be almost a crime not to stop and take some pictures with the Tower of Pisa or Leaning Tower.
The Tower of Pisa is the third oldest structure in Pisa’s Cathedral Square. It began to tilt during its construction, the ground was so soft and the foundation was not proper to support the structure’s weight. The tilted increased in decades before the structure was completed and finally stabilized between the 20th and 21st century.
The Piazza del Duomo or Piazza dei Miracoli (square of miracles) is recognized as one of the best architectural complexes in the world and its mainly formed by 4 great religious buildings: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Camposanto Monumentale and by the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. In 1987, the square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
